New photos and a ramble

I don't know what has happened but this year I smell more. Smell as in my olfactory sense is more acute (what did you think??) and walking through my garden has been like travelling in a perfume factory. My nose has 'seen' the flowers before my eyes did and I do wonder how this is, why this year? Aren't I suppose to smell less as I grow older? Aren't stress supposed to reduce the sensitivity of your senses? Could it be my brain who (yes there must be a little person in there, like in that film by Woody Allen) has decided that I was missing out on a lot of what was happening and tried to steer me towards it? Whatever the reason, I greatly appreciate it!

Sometimes I am also surprised by how light works on my visual sense, yesterday I took the dog for a walk on a path in the woods, bringing my camera with me but felt completely uninspired as I didn't see a single thing that made me want to click. Then we turned around and went back and then the magic happened, the light was completely different seen from this direction and everything I looked at was suddenly beautiful and interesting. Light is such a beautiful thing, be it outer or inner light!

Ending on a more prosaic note, as you can see I have reverted back to blogger comments and unfortunately all the comments are gone, once I would have been greatly upset by it but now I regret them being gone and just hope that they might pop up some time in the future. I have the nice feeling of all your comments here inside me and nothing can take that away from me.
And there is no recipe today either, I'm in the middle of a lot of work right now and just don't have the time but there are a few ideas floating around in my mind and I hope to hav a week off next week so I can dedicate me to Lucullian and my own photography!

  1. It's funny how that works sometimes isn't it? I too can walk around thinking 'I want to shoot something but nothing looks good' and then a few seconds later the light transforms nature or whatever right in front of me... As far as your smell goes; maybe it's the season too; the smelly season..lol.. It's still spring after all. Love the clicks, especially the ferns unfolding!

  6. I am with you about the smell, I feel like a dog sometimes, moving my nose to try to find where the flower scent is coming from. I think that there reason why you seem to be more sensitive now is because nature is producing a lot of scent to attract the pollinators, summer is more subdued as the flowers are busy making the seeds that were pollinated in the spring time.

Lovely photos, and I agree with you on the light as well, it changes things depending on the direction.

  7. Lovely photos, as usual. I really like the one with the bee. And I can almost see the fern leaves unrolling.

(I can't believe you have sweet peas blooming already. I'm suitably envious.)

  11. How I need a ramble right now! And how your pictures have inspired me for when I have my camera with me in the Englsih countryside (sometime in July). It's you inner light that makes you see the outer light. Hopefully the start of a whole new batch of nice comments...you deserve them.

  12. Ilva, these photos are a revelation--as beautiful as jewels.

Otherwise, your commentary about noticing the light on the return trip brought to mind this quote (attributed to the Ba'al Shem Tov, Rabbi Israel ben Eliezer): "Just as the hand, held before the eye, can hide the tallest mountain, so the routine of everyday life can keep us from seeing the vast radiance and the secret wonders that fill the world."

I have become the a bad blogger because I either forget or I don't have the time to answer your comments but that does not mean that I don't read or appreciate them, quite the opposite really. The generosity that shines through what you write and the fact that you take the time to comment on my posts makes my blogging worthwhile so Thank You for what you do for me and please keep on commenting!
