Today it is St Lucia. Not here but in Sweden and strangely enough this year I had to look at videos with Lucias on youtube.com this morning (more here and here), I usually never do that but maybe I am getting sentimental. When we first moved here I did adhere more to Swedish traditions but nowadays I just have a few and many of those are food related so today we are going to bake Lussekatter a go go!

When I grew up and was of a reasonable age, we used to wake up really early, like 3-4 in the morning (sometimes we stayed up all night) to go out in the really cold, hopefully snow-white dark to go to our teachers with coffee, lussekatter and singing. It was magic, for us I mean, I somehow doubt that the feeling was shared by our teachers.

Yesterday night when I had to perform the usual Saturday night taxi duty, I took camera, tripod and remote control with me to look for St Lucia, I didn't find her but I did see nice people and my city at night. In December almost all cities and villages in Italy are decorated with lights, not very eco-friendly but very beautiful!

Beautiful. I sent a link to the blog to my Mom so she could enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe and happy holiday.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures remind me of summerholiday, in Colle di Val D Elsa! A magic summer night where a band played jazz music and the whole village was out listening! Better then the cold damp whether in Gothenburg!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos--particularly the first one, of the tree in lights. The light above the tree (to the left) almost looks like an angel (albeit a slightly matronly one).
ReplyDeleteI am of Finnish-Swedish descent, but I have never made Lussekatter. (I did know that today was St.Lucia Day, however.) Usually the only holiday bread I bake is kardemumma bulla--which is very similar, but with more cardamom and no saffron.
ReplyDeleteKJ-Thank you!
Åsa Gbg-It is pretty cold now, icy winds etc but it is OK, it is winter after all!
Lilian-Kardemummabullar is one of my favourites! About the top photo, when I showed it to my oldest daughter (the one I was in town the get), she said: "But that is me and my friends on the left side of the tree!" and so it is, she didn't se me and I didn't see her!
beautiful! Fina natt bilder Italien e bella!
