“Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!”

Opera cake

I often accuse my son of living in a parallel universe but really, the person who does is me! Yesterday I was supposed to post about this month’s Daring Bakers’ challenge but did I? No I posted about yellow peppers and balsamic vinegar instead and realized only that something was wrong when I got a google alert telling me that Tanna had posted about us baking together. But it was too late and as it is too late in general I have to go for the ‘too late’ all the way so here’s my post. Too late.

Opera cake

This month has four hosts, Lisa and Ivonne, the Founders, and Fran of Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie and Shea over at Whiskful. This cake is dedicated to Barbara of Winosandfoodies and her LiveSTRONG With A Taste Of Yellow event. But I don’t know if Barbara would like to have my cake, the only reason why it looks a bit pretty is because I have hidden it beneath lovely pink roses that I picked in the garden to make it more presentable for the photo session. The white chocolate frosting I was supposed to cover it with melted away and emigrated to the plate and the table so I made a normalissimo frosting instead to save the poor cake from a fate worse than death, i.e. the dustbin. The shame, the shame. But it tasted quite well, a bit too sweet for the taste of this family but somehow it disappeared anyway, so strange…

The best thing about this cake was the baking session I had with Tanna and Karen, and this is not at all belittling the cake, not at all, quite the contrary!
Check out the rest of the DB cakes. But you probably have done that already…. “I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye! I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!”
