I have a total blank right now so I thought that if I just started writing like this something would pop up in my brain, not that I think it’s necessary to write something personal in every post but it feels a little bit more polite somehow to do some conversation before putting the food on the table. My parents thought that it was important not just give in to our more primordial instincts without resisting a little, I wonder if this is typical Protestant or just their concept of civilization? So I try in my feeble way to transmit what they imprinted on me (well at least some things, other things just seems to have left no imprint on me at all) and write a little here now even though I’m not so sure that it was this what they really intended.

Now over to something completely different, Well Fed Network has announced that it’s time to nominate your favourite food blogs for this years Food Blog Awards. I wasn’t so sure there would have been any after last year’s discussion about them, it got quite animated and a bit nasty even but they are back. WFN obviously learnt their lesson and have now opted for more transparency and clear rules both for themselves and voters. I’m happy that this year no food blogs of the judges are allowed to participate in the awards, not that I did suspect any foul play last year but to me it is a question of ethics. I do regret though that this year there’s no category for recipes, after all most food blogs are about recipes but there’s no way they will manage to make everyone happy is there? Always someone complaining about something… So now is the time for you to promote your own favourites, there are 14 categories so I’m sure you will discover a lot of new food blogs among the nominations!

OK, now it’s time for food. This is my first entry for this month’s HotM, Quick and Easy. Oven roasted vegetables are special I think, they develop such intense flavours in the oven and when you add balsamic vinegar to it, they reach, as most of you know, alpine heights!

Brussels sprouts
Zucchini
Red onion
Pistachio nuts
Balsamic vinegar
Salt
Extra-virgin olive oil

– Clean the vegetables and cut them into pieces. Put them in an oven-proof with some olive oil. Add salt and mix well.
– Chop the pistachio nuts and sprinkle them over the vegetables.
– Pour a little balsamic vinegar and then some more olive oil over the whole and put them into the oven (175°C/347°F) for about 20-25 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and golden. After about half the time, stir a bit and if the vegetables get too golden too early, cover them and lower the temperature a little.
