rose sugar cookies11

Now after the ordeal with the Cake from Hell I felt that I needed some more idyllic baking to get back some self confidence, not that I really need it because it didn’t affect me that much but a successful baking session couldn’t hurt. So I decided to make some simple cookies but in order to make them a little bit more than just simple I used the rose sugar I made last week. I even made some dried rose petals on my own to make the sugar prettier and tasting even more of roses so now I know how to make them, I always though that I had to buy them but all you need to do is to spread out the fresh rose petals in an oven-proof pan or tin and put the whole in the oven at a low temperature and voilà – dried rose petals!

150 g / 5 3/8 oz salted butter
100 g / 3 1/2 oz sugar
1 egg yolk
3oo g / 10 5/8 plain flour
Rose sugar
Dried rose petals, optional

– Stir butter and sugar creamy, don’t stir too much. Add the egg yolk and mix it until creamy.
– Add flour and work the dough until it’s smooth.
– Roll it out with a rolling pin and cut out the forms you want, I’m getting old, romantic and soppy so I obviously made hearts. Put them on a baking sheet.
– Crumble the rose petals and mix with the rose sugar.
– Sprinkle the cookies with the rose sugar and bake in a pre-heated oven at 175°C/347°F for 8-10 minutes.
