SIMPLE STRAWBERRY SERVING SUGGESTION: GINGER AND HONEY MARINADE
Last week I couldn’t resist buying a kilo of fresh strawberries, far too early and not at all in accordance with seasonal eating but I just had to because 1) I think a break of principles now and then is healthy for me, 2) I felt that I couldn’t deny myself a pleasure like that, 3) as a food blogger I have to sacrifice myself and 4) it was my birthday. The strawberries obviously weren’t that good but better tasting than I expected, on the other hand it’s quite rare to find really sweet and perfumed strawberries somehow so I often serve them with something that peps them up like this little marinade of honey and fresh ginger. I’ m adding this to my contributions to The Heart of the Matter event (last day 22 of March), one of the important pillars of eating Heart Healthy is to eat more fruit and it seems obvious that it has to be included here.
To make it strictly finger foodish you can present it like this:
I sliced some sweet pears and just made a tower of fruit but maybe the best way is like this:
GINGER AND HONEY MARINATED STRAWBERRIES
Fresh ginger, finely chopped
Runny honey, preferably one with not too dominant flavour
- Slice the strawberries and put them in a bowl. Add honey, not too much, and chopped ginger-I use a lot because I just love the peppery taste of it- stir and leave it to marinate for 30 minutes before serving it the way you feel like!
