MELOGRANO CON VINO E ZUCCHERO or POMEGRANATE WITH CHAMPAGNE AND SUGAR

melograno18

The other day, when I was doing my shopping, I grabbed a couple of pomegranates that I just couldn't resist and when I went over to put them on the balance, an old woman, the prototype of la nonna italiana or the Italian grandmother: short, robust and with greying black hair, stopped me and said "Oh pomegranates, they are so good! How do you eat them?" to which I answered by asking her how she eats them and she told me to add a little sugar and a little wine and enjoy it! I have never really done much to my pomegranates, I like eating them the way they are but after having tried her way, I know that it is going to be my favourite way. It's simple and yet delicious! I used some champagne from an open bottle that we happened to have around but the old lady told me that any wine was ok.

MELOGRANO CON VINO E ZUCCHERO or POMEGRANATE WITH CHAMPAGNE AND SUGAR

1 pomegranate
4 tsp sugar
4 tsp champagne or any kind of good wine

- Open up the pomegranate and take out the seeds. I find that the easiest way is to break it apart and take them out with my fingers. Put them in a small bowl
- Add the sugar and the champagne and stir well.
- Leave it to marinate 20-30 minutes and then enjoy the goodness!
